Summary: this thing broke and was in the trash in 2 weeks. The center stem mechanism broke apart and all the parts separated. Hits: --Easy to clean basket... easier to clean than most other spinners... shreds of lettuce and or carrots rarely get stuck in there and a simple rinse will clean the basket usually. --Easy to lock spinner plate into place. --Easy push-to-spin mechanism Misses: --Durability... Broke in a few weeks. I think the stem design can stand some improvement. This component has to withstand quite a bit of stress. --Overall design: Since it only turns in one direction, quite a bit of water can remain in the lettuce. I tried an experiment where I dried lettuce with OXO, then dropped the lettuce it into my old Trudeau... I used the tip that was in the little brochure that came with it, threw in a couple paper towels to get stuff even drier, and it really worked nicely! We ate half the salad the first night, and when I went to get the other half for dinner the next night, it was just as crisp and nice as the first night! I will hand wash this, since it is plastic and dishwasher heat will shorten it's life time and make it weaker and more prone to break. I loved the ring on the bottom to keep it on place. You don't have to crank on it to get the job done, especially if you throw in the paper towel, be gentle and it should last a long time! The only trouble I had was getting the mechanism apart from the lid, kind of hard to do when it is new, so be gentle and just work it a little. 7 of 7 people found the following review helpful  Quality was bad but OXO fixed it!, This review is from: OXO Salad Spinner: Small Clear Spinner After years of great service from our previous OXO salad spinner two month ago we headed out to our local Bed Bath and Beyond to buy a replacement. The old OXO spinner was by far the best salad spinner we ever used. It was sturdy, cleaned up easily, and was built to last. So obviously, as we viewed the salad spinners on sale at the store there was no question, we were going to buy another OXO spinner.The "OXO Salad Spinner - Small Clear" was on sale for $29.99. We had payed $20 for the original spinner but the it had been a few years so we had no problem paying a little more for a new one. After all, we more than got our moneys worth out of the old one. We brought the new spinner home and took it for a test spin that night and right away we were disappointed. Pulling it out of the box it felt far lighter than the old one in the hand.
