This is what I did. First, I went and bought three heads of iceberg lettuce. Then I put one in the Lettuce Crisper. I did not remove the core, nor did I add anything else. For the other two; one I removed the plastic wrapping and the other I left the wrapping on. Both of these I put in the refrigerate crisper and set the dial to the correct humidity for lettuce. After three weeks (yes, three weeks) the lettuce in the Fox Run Lettuce Crisper was showing some small signs of brown on the outer lettuce ribs. The other two in the refrigerate crisper were spoiled and nasty.My opinion is that this lettuce crisper really works. I would highly recommend it to anyone. I remove the "stem" so that there is a hole at the bottom of the head, I fill the head with cold water and place the bowl upside down over the lettuce so the water does not leak out. You then flip the bowl and put the lid on. My lettuce lasts for at least a week.
