We "upgraded" to this version when we dropped our old one and cracked the bowl. Unfortunately we have had the same experience as several other reviewers here - the spinner mechanism broke after only a few uses. It seems that if the inner basket has any significant amount of weight (from wet greens) in it and you press firmly on the spinner mechanism there is some plastic part that snaps inside the mechanism (at least that is how it sounded when it happened).To OXO's great credit, however, their customer service has been fantastic so far in getting us setup for a refund (not a replacement - we would just break it again I'm sure). 43 of 45 people found the following review helpful Save your money, By Scooter (NJ) - See all my reviews This review is from: OXO Steel Salad Spinner (Kitchen) I bought this spinner believing it would last longer than the plastic one I previously purchased, but it is poorly constructed. Some slid around on the counter, some were awkward to use and one simply retained too much sand and dirt in the inner basket.I bought both the large and small sizes in stainless steel and am perfectly satisfied. The weight and the non-slip base keeps the bowl in place and the inner baskets spin easily and have just the right sized mesh openings. I use the little one for de-hulling sprouts, which can ordinarily be a chore but is very easy, especially with the sprouts that have very tiny seeds that cling to the sprout root threads. The large bowl easily handles very large leafy greens without crowding and I find it especially useful for removing the sand from split and coarsely chopped leeks. In my opinion, these are well designed, efficient and attractive. No need to hide them away as, unlike the plastic ones, they will not discolor. |
